People who engaged in daily activities that kept them moving, such as gardening or house cleaning, reduced their stroke or heart attack risk by 27% and their risk of dying from any cause by 30%, compared with people who had the lowest amount of active time, according to a study from Sweden published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. "The results of this study showed that activities of daily life are as important as regular intentional exercise for older adults for cardiovascular health and longevity," said lead investigator Elin Ekblom-Bak of the Karolinska Institute and the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences.
