A comparative study of microSPECT and microCT showed the two modalities were similarly effective for the quantitative in vivo assessment of cardiac function in mouse models, although microSPECT offers some advantages. Subjects were injected with either technetium tetrofosmin for microSPECT or a liposomal blood pool contrast agent for microCT, and left ventricle functions were evaluated. Results published in Molecular Imaging and Biology indicated that while both have similarities, microSPECT more readily identified myocardial infarction.
