Target is testing a new format in the electronics department at some of its stores, adding waste-high white tables and displays designed to encourage shoppers to play with gadgets. The move is the latest in an ongoing effort to not only fight showrooming but to foster "reverse showrooming" in which consumers start their research online and then head to the brick-and-mortar store to experience the products and make a purchase, said Chris Christopher, IHS Global Insight's director of consumer electronics.
