As science teachers adjust to Common Core State Standards, they can expect to have more time to prepare for Next Generation Science Standards. Stephen Pruitt, a former Georgia chemistry teacher who has led development of the NGSS as a vice president at the nonprofit Achieve, said this week the new science standards will be rolled out slowly -- over the course of a couple of years or more. The standards, adopted so far by eight states, include an increased focus on engineering and common practices of scientists.
