The IT industry could feel the effects of the government shutdown after dueling party leaders on Capitol Hill failed to reach a consensus Monday on a continuing resolution to fund the government, observers say. The U.S. government went into a partial shutdown at the stroke of midnight, placing about 800,000 federal employees on temporary furlough. According to Trey Hodgkins, senior vice president for global public sector government affairs at TechAmerica, while critical government operations will continue to be funded, the shutdown will hit nonessential IT employees, including support staff, while some agencies may be forced to put a halt to work by third-party contractors.
