Health care providers increasingly take a team approach to treating breast cancer that includes a plastic surgeon, and federal legislation mandates insurance coverage for reconstruction, including tissue expansion, Walden said. Microsurgery and other new techniques that improve survival of autologous tissue have opened up more options for cancer patients, she said.
