Inexpensive radio equipment and a standard piece of ID hardware are all that's necessary to hack technology that keeps track of shipping vessels around the world, according to computer security company Trend Micro. Actual ships can be made to vanish from tracking, and false signals can be generated. "We were really able to compromise this system from the root level," said Kyle Wilhoit, a researcher with Trend Micro’s Future Threat Research team.
