Overall, use of tobacco products among middle- and high-school students fell, from 33.6% in 2000 to 20.4% in 2011, according to a report based on data from the National Youth Tobacco Survey. Female participants had a steeper decline in tobacco use compared with their male counterparts during the study period. The findings were published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.
