Engineering students at Rice University in Houston have built a robotic arm that can extend four to five feet, with a hand to pick up papers and other objects, for 17-year-old Dee Faught, who is disabled with brittle bone disease. The low-cost device, which the students worked on for two years, attaches to Faught's wheelchair and is manipulated with a PlayStation game controller.
