The Energy Information Administration, because of the partial U.S. government shutdown, has furloughed its staff and suspended operations, eliminating a source of oil-market information long relied on by petroleum traders. The Weekly Petroleum Status Report, which provides information on crude oil and gasoline, has ceased publication. "Losing any such really high-quality data source would be worrying," said Julius Walker, global energy markets strategist at UBS Securities.
