The federal government shutdown might delay the Environmental Protection Agency's processing of air permits for various U.S. petrochemical projects. The agency is operating with 872 essential staff, or just 5.4% of its total staff, according to the Contingency Plan for Shutdown released by the EPA. Among the firms with active applications for ethane crackers are Dow Chemical, Occidental Chemical/Mexichem, ExxonMobil Chemical, Formosa Plastics and Sasol.
