The U.S. stands a good chance of -- or has already -- replacing Russia as the world's top producer of oil and gas this year, according to an analysis of global data by The Wall Street Journal. U.S. energy output has increased to the point at which it is undercutting the influence of traditional petroleum suppliers, the newspaper said. The growth of U.S. shale production depends on continued public support, government regulatory policies and commodity prices, experts said.
