The U.S. Travel Association has released messages from lodging and tour operators across the country whose businesses have been affected by the government shutdown, showing a glimpse of the damage the shutdown is causing on the economies of several tourism-focused communities. "We're hearing from family-owned businesses who have had no choice but to send their employees home, with no idea when or if they will be able to call them back. And unlike federal workers, these workers have no expectation of getting their back pay when the government reopens," said Roger Dow, president and CEO of U.S. Travel.
