The Harvey Milk Foundation has announced on its Facebook page that the United States Postal Service will soon issue a stamp commemorating LGBT icon Harvey Milk. Milk, who made history as California’s first openly LGBT elected official after being elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977, will be the first openly LGBT official to appear on a U.S. stamp. The Postal Service is expected to begin issuing the stamp next year.
