Some palliative care practitioners are reluctant to talk about their job for fear people will see it as a depressing profession when it really is just the opposite, writes Dr. Mark Taubert, a palliative care consultant. Job satisfaction is high and burnout low among palliative physicians, compared with other specialties, and hospice, oncology and palliative care programs are homes to laughter and humor, often instigated by patients.
