A company called Backyard Brains will soon start selling live cockroaches to children -- along with the kits needed to implant electronic circuits into the bugs, allowing the insects to be controlled remotely via an iPhone application. Bioethicists say the company's products are morally problematic, because they effectively encourage children to conduct surgery on other living things for entertainment purposes. "As scientists, we do this all the time, but it happens behind closed doors," notes company co-founder Greg Gage.
