The AAFP intervened with a letter to the CMS when primary care medicine residents who were not enrolled in Virginia's new Medicaid electronic database had problems with pharmacies that would not fill their prescriptions to Medicaid patients. The AAFP letter asked for a grace period in current regulations to allow residents to enroll in the database and the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services responded by implementing a 60- to 90-day time frame for residents to complete the process.
