The volume of rail carloads transported by U.S. railroads rose 4.9% in the week ending Nov. 9 year-on-year, and intermodal activity climbed 6.3%, according to the Association of American Railroads. Of the 10 carload categories, eight posted gains led by a 25% increase in shipments of petroleum products. Overall, U.S. traffic in the latest week was up 5.6% compared with the year-ago level, AAR noted.
