An increasing number of amputees are finding creative and inexpensive ways to make their own prostheses using nontraditional materials such as 3D printers and spare parts. This slide show features a farmer who made his own prosthetic hands, a high school student who created a prosthesis controlled by brain waves, and a man who created a replacement finger from bike parts, among others.
