Greater standardization of drug registration and regulations in Latin America would help ensure "the overall quality, safety and efficacy of medicines ...[and] provide patients with faster access to new or improved medicines," said the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations prior to a conference in Lima, Peru. Harmonization would also give patients the knowledge that medicines purchased in one country met the same standards as those purchased in another, the organization stated.
