Many compounds around the house can be life-threatening to pets, according to veterinarian Karyn L. Bischoff, a toxicologist with Cornell University's New York State Animal Health Diagnostic Center. Chocolate, xylitol, raisins and other food items can be toxic for pets, but so can human medications such as acetaminophen, antidepressants and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder medications.
