Organic is a hot market with Americans spending $30 billion on organic food items including produce, meat, wine and coffee. And producers of farmed fish want to get in on the action. To create a certification, which usually is based on soil conditions, the USDA's National Organic Program is focusing on the diets of farmed fish. "I think it's possible for there to be organically farmed fish, but they would have to be raised in completely closed, recirculating systems that don't touch the ocean," said Zeke Grader of the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations.
