Cargill says it will use the label "finely textured beef" in U.S. products starting in 2014. The move comes after a rival was caught in media controversy last year over a similar product that was dubbed "pink slime," causing demand for Cargill's beef product to drop by 80%. Although the USDA does not require such labeling, Cargill has initiated the effort to meet public demand for increased transparency, President John Keating says.
