CDC officials reported Thursday that the U.S. showed improvements in 29 health care categories, but disparities associated with different variables such as income, gender and race and ethnicity still persist. In the CDC's report on health disparities and inequalities, researchers have also identified 10 new areas that showed disparity, including access to healthy foods, chronic disease-related limitations and health-related quality of life. "Although we have seen pretty dramatic improvement in health for the population overall, you really have to look at particular groups to see that there are still tremendous disparities in health outcomes," said Dr. Chesley Richards, director of the CDC's Office of Public Health Scientific Services.
