Speaking at the Healthcare Leadership Forum in Chicago, former Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality director Dr. Carolyn Clancy said quality control guidelines in health care do not fare as well as in other fields. Clancy called for collaboration between researchers and the health care community before beginning the process of guideline development. Dr. Mark Roberts also noted the need for physician buy-in before guidelines are implemented, and sought to put guidelines in context, noting the documents are not meant to substitute for clinical judgment, but rather put evidence-based practices into greater use.
