U.S. consumers spent $53.2 billion in online and mobile shopping during the third quarter, as retail sales from desktop computers grew 13% and mobile spending rose 26% compared to the same period last year, according to comScore. E-commerce captured 9.4% of total discretionary spending, led by five top-performing categories including digital content and subscriptions, apparel and accessories and consumer packaged goods, each of which grew at least 14% year-over-year, comScore reported.
