A developer has made millions with a mobile gaming application that public-health officials have hailed as a tool to alert people that pandemics remain a real threat even as U.S. government funding for medical research is being crunched, according to Columbia University's Ian Lipkin. In Plague Inc., players must wipe out the world with a contagion before scientists can find a cure. "Games like this reach people who don’t think about the importance of science," said Lipkin, who is the director of University's Center for Infection and Immunity.
