Cranberry sales have been on a steady decline since peaking in 2008, and the current glut in the cranberry market has farmers diversifying and branching out into other industries. For most growers in the $1 million cranberry business in Maine, it has become hard to break even. "It hurts," Maine cranberry farmer Harry Ricker said. “I can’t eat 60,000 pounds of cranberries.”
