Undergoing a urine test to measure albumin levels may help identify adolescents with type 1 diabetes who are at risk of cardiovascular and kidney disease, a study in Diabetes Care indicated. Researchers examined 3,353 patients ages 10 to 16 and found those whose albumin levels were in the top 30% showed more signs of early heart and kidney problems than those with lower levels.
