Owners should feed a consistent, relatively bland diet and use bananas, apples and carrots as dog snacks in place of higher-calorie specialty treats, Dr. Ward recommends. Start all pet weight-loss efforts with a visit to the veterinarian, she adds, and be sure to include regular exercise in your dog's everyday routine.
