The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed to reduce by 3 billion gallons its biofuel blending requirements with gasoline in 2014. Under the proposed changes, refiners would only be required to blend 15 billion to 15.52 billion gallons of ethanol and biodiesel, down from the current mandate of 18.15 billion gallons. "While the agency took a step in the right direction, more must be done to ensure Americans have the choice of ethanol-free gasoline. They are getting close to making sure they don't breach us through the blend wall," said American Petroleum Institute President and CEO Jack Gerard.
