Energy companies need to share information about incidents of cyberattacks in order to protect the industry, according to cyberdefense experts at the Cybersecurity Conference & Expo in Houston.
Information-sharing among industry players can help firms mitigate exposures and avert the same threats that other companies encountered, said David Cowart of computer forensics firm Mandiant. However, some companies are hesitant to share such data for fear that the information might leak and destroy their reputation, said Stuart Wagner, information technology security director at Enterprise Products Partners.
