Equipment manufacturer Fujitsu is pioneering new server technology that dispenses with traditional copper wiring in favor of light and lasers to decouple processing and storage units from primary server racks, allowing for smaller, more efficient components. This week, the company demoed two Primergy RX200 servers that use fiber optic cable to connect them to expansion boxes, which could theoretically support data transfer speeds of 100 Gbps.
