GlaxoSmithKline's inaugural "Discovery Fast Track" competition pits academic drug researchers against one another in a contest to find feasible new drug compounds. Contestants filed online applications, and researcher names and affiliations were withheld from GSK judges until the finalists were brought in to pitch their ideas. "There was enormous curiosity within GSK, and the engagement with the scientists was one of the most positive things," said Pearl Huang, global head of Glaxo's Discovery Partnerships with Academia.
