The Obesity Society, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology have released guidelines that urge physicians to help obese patients identify the best weight-loss diet or program for them. "The overall objective is quite a tall order: to get primary care practitioners to own weight management as they own hypertension management," said obesity researcher Donna Ryan, who co-chaired the committee that wrote the recommendations. The guidelines, which accompany ones for lifestyle, cholesterol and cardiovascular-risk calculations, are published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Obesity: Journal of The Obesity Society and Circulation.
