Remote working challenges managers who are used to face-to-face contact with employees, but it doesn't have to be a headache, argues Scott Berkun, who was a team leader for a year at Automattic, whch has a dispersed workforce. The company has found success at empowering employees without requiring their physical presence. "Most people doubt online meetings can work, but they somehow overlook that most in-person meetings don't work either," Berkun writes in his book "The Year Without Pants."
