Developing relationships with students and giving them choices in the classroom can help motivate them to learn, according to teacher Larry Ferlazzo. Children are motivated to learn when they can identify their own learning style and are given the power to make choices, he said. "For a lot of our students, having them just involved in deciding what kind of homework to get is a good first step for developing a sense of power," Ferlazzo noted.
