Consumers deciding between single- or two-stage snow throwers should consider the size and material of the driveway, advised Edward Andria, product manager for Husqvarna Canada. Single-stage snowblowers have an auger in the front that makes contact with the ground surface, making them less suitable for gravel but a good choice for smaller stone or wood areas. For gravel driveways or uneven surfaces, a dual-stage snow thrower is recommended because it's possible to raise the auger and impeller off the ground to prevent damage, Andria said.
