Kennedy was shot in Dallas, and President Barack Obama declared a day of remembrance in memory of the late president's "broad vision and soaring but sober idealism." Flags flew at half-staff across the country to mark the anniversary. "While President Kennedy's life was tragically cut short, his vision lives on in the generations he inspired," Obama said in his proclamation.
