The concept of smart cities across the world is starting to gain traction, according to this article, and there may be lessons to be learned from emerging countries. From rent-a-lamps to man-made trees that moderate temperatures and smart electricity grids, technology and new ways of solving problems are emerging. "Many of the most exciting smart developments take place from the bottom up, making existing processes smarter and empowering citizens," said Leo Johnson of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
