Legislation emerging from the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs would require veterans hospitals to observe the same disease-reporting requirements as do hospitals licensed by states. The bill, which was introduced by Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., came in response to a fatal outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in Pittsburgh that wasn't discovered for almost two years. "What this legislation will do is take significant steps toward reforming VA policies so what occurred at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System never happens again," Casey said.
