The global market for microelectromechanical system devices is forecast to be more than $22 billion in 2018, compared with $12 billion last year, according to analysts speaking at a conference in Napa, Calif. While consumer applications of MEMS in smartphones and tablet computers will remain considerable, Jérémie Bouchaud of IHS said the parts will soon emerge in gas sensors, micro-speakers and thermal cameras.
