German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the EU's economic ties with the US, including negotiations to create a free trade zone, are under pressure because of reports that the US National Security Agency spies on allies, including Germany. "The trans-Atlantic relationship and therefore also the negotiations for a free trade agreement are presently without doubt being put to the test by the remaining accusations against the US and the collection of millions of data," Merkel said during parliamentary debate.
