The Michigan Senate passed a bill that would allow nurse practitioners and other advanced practice registered nurses to practice on their own and prescribe drugs without physician oversight. "Allowing APRNs to practice within their education, training and national certification will open up an avenue for basic health care and especially in rural areas ... increase access to health care and offer an affordable option," said state Sen. Mark Jansen, R-Grand Rapids, the bill's sponsor. The bill goes next to the House for consideration.
