Mobile computing presents a growing range of opportunities in radiology, with impacts on referring physicians, data transmission and acquisition, patient care and education, according to an article in the journal Academic Radiology. Referring physicians could access information about imaging studies or use computerized physician order entry while interacting with patients. Eventually, radiologists could remotely interact with sonographers during studies or create remote mobile radiology departments to serve communities without on-site facilities. "In the not-too-distant future, such applications may change from novel offerings to expected services," said lead author Dr. William Auffermann.
