Twenty North Carolina school districts recently received Healthier School Breakfast Awards from the Healthy Hunger Free Kids program, including one district that is working to improve breakfast participation. The district offers a "second chance breakfast" in the classroom for students who arrive to school late. "We provide them with breakfast no matter what time they come in," Child Nutrition Director Joann Joyner said, adding, "We had to find a way to get through to the students."
