Carnival Corp. and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. have issued statements saying they are reevaluating future ship deployments in Italy after a ruling was passed to reduce traffic by large cruise ships in Venice. The ruling imposes a 20% reduction in the passage of vessels larger than 40,000 gross tons along the Guidecca Canal starting in January, and a total ban on cruise ships greater than 96,000 gross tons by November 2014. The decision is expected to primarily affect cruise schedules in 2015, especially in the summer.
