A new site launched last week by New York City's health department tracks fat, salt and calorie counts in 35,000 menu items at chain restaurants and shows how the stats have changed over time. MenuStat, which pulls the public data from the restaurants' own sites, may encourage chains to make their dishes healthier, said Christine Johnson, acting assistant commissioner for the department's Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Tobacco Control.
