Nokia and Microsoft are making notable gains in the smartphone market in Europe and Latin America, according to a report by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. "The majority of consumers in Latin America still own a Nokia feature phone, and upgrading to an entry-level Lumia is the logical next step. Price is the main barrier in developing markets, and the budget Lumia 520 opens the door to smartphone ownership for many," said Dominic Sunnebo of Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. The data also show that Windows Phone OS is now on 10% of the phones sold in five major European markets -- the U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
