A study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found metabolically healthy obese individuals still had higher odds of developing heart disease and diabetes. However, the findings did not suggest a causal relationship between the conditions. The results highlight "the importance of continuing to monitor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease in both people with metabolically healthy obesity and those who have metabolic abnormalities despite being a normal weight," said study author Dr. Carlos Lorenzo.
